D-Backs look at Yanks’ Unit; Red Sox could get jealous

The New York Yankees are seriously considering trading the Big Unit back to where he came from, the Arizona Diamondbacks. This would probably be a pretty good deal for Arizona as this could be their chance to take advantage of a weak division and weak NL in general. With Johnson and Webb at the front of that rotation, Arizona would be a real force.
The real question then becomes: what happens to the Yankees? This is where the tears begin to flow in the Boston area. The Yanks probably won’t get a pitcher worthy of their starting rotation in return, opening the door for Steinbrenner to spend money on another big name pitcher… or two. Currently the rotation is Mussina, Johnson, Pettite, Wang and maybe Pavano.
As it is the Yanks could use another guy (Roger Clemens? I think so…). Now you get rid of Johnson and who else is available? Hmm… you’re looking to replace a big lefty, someone who loves playing in a big market. You know what would fit in perfect? Maybe another huge lefty looking to play in a big market. Maybe a big ticket guy with a nasty curveball. A guy who’s been shutting down opponents despite his previous teams inability to hang on to any stars. How about Barry Zito?
Zito wants to be in New York. He also wants big money, which the Yankees certainly aren’t afraid to dish out. That fit seems too good (or horrifying) to be true. Look at this rotation if it were to go down the way I’m predicting: Barry Zito, Mike Mussina, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettite, Chien-Ming Wang.
Uh oh… I better go change my pants.
