Cy Young Awards | |
|
Each year, this award is given annually to the pitcher in each league who receives the most votes by a panel from the Baseball Writers Association of America. The panel is made up of two writers from each city that houses a major league franchise.
From 1956 through 1966, the Cy Young Award was given to only one major-league pitcher. Beginning in 1967, a separate Cy Young was awarded to the top pitcher in each league. Until 1970, panelists listed only their first-place votes. In 1970, the voting system was overhauled, with panelists now voting for their top five choices.
