In his first full season as Purdue's starting quarterback, Curtis Painter accumulated 3,985 passing yards, a new Purdue record, while leading the Boilermakers to an eight win season and a return to postseason play.
While Boilermaker fans were certainly pleased with Painter's performance, his inconsistent play left several question marks. One game Painter would throw for over 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns while the next game he'd throw for three interceptions. When the season came to and end, he had a touchdown to interception ratio of 22 to 19. At times, Painter just was not in synce with his wide receivers.
Despite inconistency, the potential is there for Painter to have a really big season. According to the coaches, Painter has played brilliently in the spring and summer workouts.
Besides becoming more consistent another offseason goal for Painter was to improve chemistry between he and his wide receivers. From the outlook, it appears that he may have done just that.
Painter was quoted saying, "That's been a big focus this fall camp. Having the whole offseason, the spring and summer, really helps out with that. You get to work a lot with the guys one-on-one and really figure out what they are about."
If the offense is to cout down on the number of turnovers, most notably the interceptions, then that relationship is going to be vital
If Painter can become more consitant and improve his touchdown to interception ratio than the signal caller could become one of the Big Ten's best players at any position.
