Born on May 19, 1929 in Egypt, Pennsylvania, Curt Simmons (Curtis Thomas Simmons) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and California Angels over the course of his 20 year career. Simmons broke into the bigs on September 28, 1947 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 4.87 ERA in 170 innings pitched in 1948, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Curt Simmons's best season was 1963, when he posted a 2.48 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 127 batters.
