Curt Flood (Curtis Charles Flood) was born on January 18, 1938 in Houston, Texas. He made his Major League debut on September 9, 1956 for the Cincinnati Reds. In 1958, his rookie year, he hit .261 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI. Flood played for the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Senators over the course of his 14 year career.

Most people believe that Curt Flood's best season was 1963, when he hit for a .302 average and knocked in 63 runs.

Traded by St. Louis Cardinals with Tim McCarver, Byron Browne and Joe Hoerner to Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Jerry Johnson, Dick Allen and Cookie Rojas (October 7, 1969); Curt Flood refused to report to Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals sent Willie Montanez (April 8, 1970) and Bob Browning (August 30, 1970) to complete trade. Traded by Philadelphia Phillies with a player to be named later to Washington Senators in exchange for Greg Goossen, Jeff Terpko and Gene Martin (November 3, 1970); Washington Senators received Jeff Terpko (April 10, 1971).
