Right now it is the posh thing for Suns fans to talk about curses and it’s even so en vogue that Dan Bickley wrote about it for azcentral.com. While he talks about the Suns lack of championship success not being based on curses of officiating. I one hundred percent agree with Bickley, which is a rarity, but he doesn’t really break down what the issue is.

I have a theory. While some Suns fans want to say the 39 year championship drought should be compared to that of the Cubs, the Indians and the Red Sox prior to 2004 there really is no way to even compare the Suns to any of those. Where would this so called curse come from? Colangelo’s miss call on the coin toss that gave Lew Alcindor, eventually known as Kareem Abdul Jabarr. If that’s the best reason for the curse the fans have it is weak. It’s no goat or great bambino.

No the only thing that has kept the Suns from winning a championship is themselves. Over the years they have played unconventional basketball. Whether it’s was small ball in the 90’s or Coach D’s organized chaos they have rarely played basketball the way conventional basketball wisdom has told them too. There has never been a true great center in the Suns history, before you comment Amare Stoudemire is a great athlete but come on he really is a power forward playing out of position. The few times the Suns have had more traditional lineups they found themselves in the finals. In 1975-76 and 1992-1993 the Suns had conventional lineups 1-5 and could play at least ten deep. Those two teams just happened to run into two of the greatest dynasties in sports history, the Celtics (’76) and the Bulls (’93). They didn’t lose to these teams in the finals because of a curse just because they were solid teams.

Sure they have had injuries at bad and bizarre times over the years with guys like Richard Dumas, Joe Johnson, Danny Manning and Raja Bell to name a few but every team deals with these. A championship team is truly a perfect storm. The Suns haven’t found that perfect storm yet based on flawed plans, bad timing and a lazy super star, yes Charles you may be in my NBA fave 5 but you can’t deny you were fat and lazy when it came to 1994-1996.

Is this the Suns year? Is the perfect storm forming? Is the eye of this storm on the prize? It’s hard to say but it’s probably the best chance since 1976 and 1993 for Phoenix to make it to the NBA finals. The question is is this yet another flawed plan where unconventional basketball won’t get it done or have the Suns finally found a visionary who may just redefine what conventional basketball is.

Round two is a true clash of the titans it’s conventional basketball versus what hopes to be the new breed of basketball. But if organized chaos can’t beat half court ageless wonders don’t blame a curse or the refs blame the plan.

Phoenix fans are so freaking chicken little... I think y'all watch too many Cardinals games! Unlike Uncle Manny who is merely watching his Sunny Words of October ring true in May and Sunny June

I would definitely agree with you Jimmy. This issue has been all over my college dorm room. I think that I agree with what Jimmy is trying to do/say.
