Cubs manager Dusty Baker to learn fate on Monday

14
Vote

Cubs manager Dusty Baker will learn Monday morning whether he will be the Cubs manager again next season, Chicago general manager Jim Hendry said Saturday.

Baker's four-year contract is expiring, and the Cubs were tied with Pittsburgh for the National League's worst record at 65-95 after Friday's 5-2 loss to Colorado Rockies.

I think they should make him a starting pitcher. Have him throw 200 pitches a game. See how he feels.

"Baker's four-year contract is expiring, everyone in Chicago hates him, and Cubs fans pretty much think that playoff season was a fluke now."

I don't think the entire mess in Chicago was Dusty's fault (though I like the 200 pitches a game idea...). Some of the blame has to fall to the Tribune Company, which owns the team. As cheap as that company is (and not just with the Cubs--they recently acquired the Los Angeles Times and sweeping cutbacks are already being made), it's no wonder the product on Wrigley Field is lacking. Though for the record, I don't blame Bartman for the 2003 NLCS collapse; I blame Alex Gonzalez for not fielding that grounder later in the inning, and the team for not closing out that game or the next one. Cub fans need to let go of the meaningless scapegoats.

For the record, as a Cubs fan, I've never blamed Bartman for that fiasco... it was upsetting at first but when I saw the replay right afterwards, I was ok with it... but I myself also blame Alex Gonzalez for the booted ball on a routine double play. If that play is made, Cubs out of the inning and they probably would have won.
