So I was flipping through the channels early this morning and found the HBO documentary Wait 'Til Next Year: The Saga of the Chicago Cubs. As a relatively new baseball fan, I was eager to learn more about a team other than my favorite, the Cleveland Indians. This documentary explored more than just the ups and downs of the Cubs title chases. It told the stories of the ivy on the walls of Wrigley, the Billy Goat Curse, the legends that are Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, and Ryne Sandberg, how every die hard Cubs fan loathes the Padres and Marlins, and how a Santo fan walked from Arizona to Wrigley Field to raise a quarter million dollars for Juvenile Diabetes Research.
This hour-long program gives great insight into the history of the Cubbies ball club. I had been contemplating finding a National League team to follow for a couple years now and I think this may have sealed the deal. Now I may be a glutton for punishment seeing as the Indians have not won THE title since 1948 and the Cubs since 1908! But everyone loves an underdog!
If interested in catching this...here's the schedule.
