Cubs Clubbing On

Back in early June I worte an article saying the Chicago Cubs were done. Well, I may have been wrong. They probably wont win a World Serries this year, but they will most likely make the playoffs. All though with the Beer makers tied with the Cubs for first place, there is a good chance that the winner of the NL central will boil down to the last few weeks of the season. With the St. Louis Cardinals only one games back they probaly shoudn't be counted out yet either. On June 14 when I wrote the article the Cubs were having problems in the club house, on the field , with umpires, with baseball, with anything you could imagine. Now the Cubbies have come roaing back and have a great chance to make the playoffs.

I suppose I was wrong about Lou Piniella, maybe his tirrant did fire up the troops, mabey he is going to have a decent baseball team after all. Michael Barrett, well he is gone now and catching in San Deigo, while Carlos Zambrano could be up for a Cy Young. Derrek Lee is heathly and hitting again, Jacque Jones and Alfonso Soriano are both back and hitting well. The pitching, as I previous mentioned, is great getting contributions from the young guys and from Ted Lilly and Carlos Zambrano, Kerry Wood came out of the bullpen a few times and seems to be okay.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the middle infield. They have two young guys both from LSU turning excellent double plays. Basiccly this article is just to appoligize to the Cub fans I bashed in June, mabey the Cubs CAN win, mabye they can. Read more on http://sportsbysam.blogspot.com

Hm, Theriot and Fontenot were a double play combo at LSU, NOT Stanford. Never heard of Zambrono either, and Z is not up for a Cy Young.

Yeah, he's 14-12, 4.35 ERA, and 1.370 WHIP. I don't think he's Cy Young material. Rich Hill (8-7, 3.84 ERA, 1.202 WHIP) and Ted Lilly (14-7, 3.85, 1.167 WHIP) are more valuable than the "Ace" right now.

Well, at least they're better than Neifi Perez (on OR off steroids, if he was ever off them).
