Cubbies Lock Up Lee

6
Vote

The Chicago Cubs signed 1B Derrek Lee to a five-year, $65 million contract through 2010. Lee will receive $13 million per year. Lee receives a no-trade clause for the length of the deal. He replaces oft-injured Kerry Wood as the Cubs' highest-paid player.

$13 million a year? Say it with me: over-rated.

I think it was a very good deal for them...I like this contract better than the Ortiz deal.

How old is he? The first two years aren't bad -- the next two may be.

his one exceptional season does not make him worth $13million. I would be hard pressed to believe he will repeat last year's season.

I agree, it is a lot of money, but he is very good on both sides of the ball. Don't forget he has two gold gloves to his name. I don't know that he'll win the batting title again, but he should have around a .300 avg, .340 obp, and 100+rbis and runs. Plus he is only 30 so he has about 2 -3 years left of his prime.
