Cuban and the NHL: Perfect Together?

It is being reported in several media outlets that Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wants to team up with a partnership that includes NFL hall of famer Dan Marino to purchase the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Cuban and Marino are both from the Pittsburgh area, and it is being reported that they only want to be part of an ownership group that wishes to keep the Pens in Pittsburgh. The Pens currently play in the oldest arena still in use in the NHL. The Pens need a new arena to compete, however, politics and lack of funding has prevented a new arena from being built in Pittsburgh.
Cuban, known for his outgoing and lively personality, may be just what the NHL needs. The NHL has been a disaster in the area of marketing for decades. If the right answer was X, the NHL would consistently go with Y (see going with no US regular TV contract during the late 1980's, the Sportschannel America debacle, etc.). Cuban can bring his advertising expertise to the NHL and that may lead to an increase in fan base for hockey in the United States.
Only time will tell as to whether Cuban will join the ownership ranks of the NHL. But the thought alone brings hope for a brighter NHL future to all.
