I live slap bang in the middle of this track - which follows the line of the Rednal triangle, everything inside is Rednal, everything outside is not! Longbridge, Frankley and Rubery flank it.
The Area
Mainly known for the giant factory in Longbridge that used to make Rover cars, the area is in decline since the collapse of the company. As for facilities, around the track there is a lot of land for development, hotels and the like, as well as pit garages along the right hand side of the pit straight.
The Fundamental Problems
- There would have to be temporary pit garages as there is no real space for them on the straight.
- There are no real grandstands - there would be space for them on the two straights however.
- It would need a lot of safety measures, as ever on a street circuit.
- There are quite a few undulations.
The Pros
- The roads are wide and interesting, as well as quick and interesting.
- The layout is conjucive to overtaking
- At four miles, the track is long enough. It has some interesting corners.
The Lap
I will describe the lap-
- Start straight - Flying past the school before dropping down into...
- Turn 1 - Dropping right on a smooth corner, before a short straight into...
- Turn 2 - Go around the island and back on yourself, a slow corner. Once you have finished the loop you accelerate up the hill into...
- Turn 3 - Right onto the dual carriageway with a very wide exit, which then narrows into...
- Turn 4 - A square right under the fly-over - very bumpy so traction is at a premium up the hill into...
- Turn 5 - A very quick left/right/left past J.R.R. Tolkien's (he of Lord of the Rings fame) in the style of Spa's Eau Rouge, leading into
- Turn 6 - A slow chicane, perfect for overtaking, and then...
- Turn 7 - A very fast left hander with grandstands on the right, followed immediately by...
- Turn 8 - A tight left hander leading onto the longest straight (Rover factory all along the left hand side), so a good exit would be vital...
- Turn 9 - At the bottom of the hill, turn tight left and sweep right onto the pit straight.
Names of corners
- Turn 1 - Supermarket Sweep I
- Turn 2 - Cinema Corner
- Turn 3 - Supermarket Sweep II
- Turn 4 - Flyover Bend
- Turn 5 - Tolkein Esses
- Turn 6 - Traffic Control
- Turn 7 - Leach Green Bend
- Turn 8 - Cofton Corner
- Turn 9 - Gate K Bend
So there you have it. One track, quick and interesting, with some great passing opportunites... This is my home, and proud of it!
I used Multimap for the map - The scale was 1:25,000
