This is Britain's second city, with over 1,000,000 people living here, with icons such as the Mailbox, Bullring and Selfridges.

The Area

Birmingham - once known as the city of 1,000 trades, has suffered with the decline of the manufacturing industry

The Fundamental Problems

  • It is short, and slow, in the mould of Monaco
  • No pit garages or grandstands, but enough room for both (surprisingly for a cramped city centre)
  • It would need a lot of safety measures, as ever on a street circuit.

The Pros

  • Despite its lack of speed, it is very interesting and presents actual overtaking spots
  • The layout is conjucive to overtaking
  • At four miles, the track is long enough. It has some interesting corners.

The Lap

I will describe the lap-

  • Start straight - Along the pretty road (always filled with flowers) straight into...
  • Turn 1 - Very quick left hander under the underpass, could be taken while accelerating before braking for...
  • Turn 2 - The tightest left hand hairpin ever!, which is followed closely by...
  • Turn 3 - A simple 90-right into...
  • Turn 4 - Another 90-right dropping into...
  • Turn 5 - A 90-left, which then leads into...
  • Turn 6 - A sweeping right-hand corner, before darting into...
  • Turn 7 - A cambered left, tight and fast, zooming up the hill, before turning a virtual hairpin past the police station and Children's Hospital, then driving quickly up to...
  • Turn 8 - A right-left chicane past the beautiful cathedral, then for the greatest corner on the track...
  • Turn 9 - An uphill left-hand hairpin, then...
  • Turn 10 - A slow adverse-cambered 90-left, then...
  • Turn 11 - A quick right/left that widens on exit with a passing place heading into the next bend, which is...
  • Turn 12 - A long left-hander that tightens on the exit, which can leave the driver stranded for pace down the pit-straight.

Names of corners

  • Turn 1 - Watt Corner
  • Turn 2 - NEC Hairpin
  • Turn 3 - Paradise Circus
  • Turn 4 - Car Park
  • Turn 5 - John Bright Bend
  • Turn 6 - New Street
  • Turn 7 - Diana Corner
  • Turn 8 - Cathedral Chicane
  • Turn 9 - Victoria
  • Turn 10 - Colmore Row Bend
  • Turn 11 - Bus Stop
  • Turn 12 - Snow Hill Corner

My city... My life

I used Multimap for the map - The scale was 1:25,000
