The Dallas Stars defeated the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place 3-2. The Oilers were trailing 3-1 until Peter Sykora scored with 1:25 remaining in the 3rd period to make the scores 3-2. With 8 seconds remaining in the 3rd period the faceoff was at the faceoff spot in the Star's zone right of Marty Turco. It looked as if the Oilers had tied the game but referee Mick McGeough called a hand-pass from faceoff man Shawn Horcoff to Jarret Stoll which wiped out a tying goalmouth score by Ales Hemsky with 4.1 seconds left. Replays later showed that Horcoff had gotten low to win the faceoff but didn't get his glove on the puck and clearly moved the puck with his stick off the draw. The Oilers radio commentators also disagreed and one of them even said the call was "B.S." and that referee Mick Magoo should be "ashamed of himself." The Oilers argued vehemently however the decision was not reversed and the horn sounded again just prior to the timekeeper being on the phone much to the dismay of Oilers fans who threw debris on the ice.
