Criag Sager's Tie Has Made Me Legally Blind

As seen at http://3rdstringsafety.blogspot.com/

Seriously, did you see that thing? Who wears a blinding yellow tie with a black pin stripped suit. He looked like a giant bumble bee.

Anyway

As the Yankee season rolls slowly to a close I have to wonder about what wholesale changes are looming.

A-Rod is certain to opt out and with a (somewhat) successful post-season any buyer beware tag that could have possibly existed is gone. I've flipped back and forth about where A-Rod lands next year. I hope he comes back, there's no way the Yankees even get into the post season without him.

Posoda, Pettite, Rivera, and Abreu all are free agents (Andy has an option) and I wonder how much Torre's, apparent, absence next year will matter.

Jorge has been a fixture behind the plate for the Yankees. He's been a mentor for the young pitching staff and if not for A-Rod, he offensively, he had legitimate MVP worthy season. He wants a taste of free agency and is certain to rake in money. He is, no doubt, bound to be overpaid. He can't possible have that many great seasons left in him. However, he is worth overpaying for. The Yankees throw money around like water. If we can waste all this money on Carl Pavano would it kill us to throw in an extra 5 million to keep Jorge around.

I had a mini nightmare half way through this game, Jorge was playing for in NY, which is all good however it was Flushing, and not the Bronx. Far fetched? I don't know anymore. Depends on money and how loyal to Torre he is. The Mets have alot going for them in landing Jorge. They have an opening at catcher, a fan base who would love and adore him, but most importantly the have, a ton of money and Willy Randolph. Plus it's not like Jorge would have to uproot his life to play for the Mets.

And what about Mo. The Yanks have an heir apparent in Joba, but this playoffs reminded us he is still human and well Mo...Mo's from another planet. Odds are he comes back but anything could happen this off season and it wouldn't surprise me.

What about Andy? Retirement might be an option but I don't see that happening. Might he walk away from the Yankees if some of his veteran friends leave? He seems a solid bet to opt out of his current contract. With the year he had and the lack of depth in free agency he seems poised to cash in on one last big contract.

This team will have a ton of questions surrounding it this off season.

What about Bobby and his player option? Will Giambi, Farnsworth, Igawa, Pavano be traded? What about the rest of our bullpen? Torre's hesitance to bring in Viz in a pivotal situation in Game 4 certainly says alot about the free agent to be.

And what about our rotation? Does Joba enter it? Does IPK (Ian Patrick Kennedy) get a spot? Does Moose even stay in town?

Of course alot of this will be dependent on Torre. Is the Bosses threat real? Does Torre even want to stick around and endure more of the B.S. he's had to deal with the past few years.

It's sad to be honest. I'm at an age where I can only remember Torre being the Yankee skipper. And while I knew it wouldn't last forever isn't it ironic that Torres finest regular season might be his last.

Sigh.

In the words of Robert Frost

"Nothing Gold Can Stay"

...stay gold Joe Torre, stay gold.
