Craig Monroe (Craig Keystone Monroe) was born on February 27, 1977in Texarkana, Texas. He made his Major League debut on July 28, 2001 for the Texas Rangers. In 2003, his rookie year, he hit .240 with 23 home runs and 70 RBI. Monroe played for the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 6 year career. Monroe will open the 2008 season with the Minnesota Twins.

There is some disagreement on what was Craig Monroe's most productive season. Some believe that it was 2006, when he slugged 28 home runs and knocked in 92 runs. However, others believe that it was 2005, when he slugged 20 home runs, hit for a .277 average and knocked in 89 runs.

  • Selected by the Texas Rangers in the 8th round of the free-agent draft on June 1, 1995 - signed on June 2, 1995.
  • Claimed on waivers by the Detroit Tigers from the Texas Rangers on February 1, 2002.
  • Traded by the the Detroit Tigers with cash to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later. The Chicago Cubs sent Clay Rapada to the Detroit Tigers to complete the trade. on August 30, 2007
