Everyone else is having a go with their MLB playoff picks, so I figured I would, too.
First, let's look at my beginning of the season picks. Now, before you look at these keep in mind that the Cleveland Indians were tearing it up the first week of the season and I got a little bit excited.
AL East - Boston Red Sox
AL Central - Cleveland
AL West - Oakland A's
Wildcard - Toronto Blue Jays
NL East - New York Mets
NL Central - St. Louis Cardinals
NL West - Los Angeles Dodgers
Wildcard - Houston Astros
AL Champ - Cleveland
NL Champ - Houston
World Series Champ - Cleveland
Now, besides the whole Indians thing, most of those picks aren't too bad. Boston and Oakland are both leading their division in the AL and the Mets and Cards are right so far in the the NL. Houston is four out of the wildcard and Toronto is five and a half out. So four correct, two close and one (Detroit Tigers) completely unpredictable and the NL is always up for grabs because they're all pretty bad.
Here are my second half adjustments on my picks:
AL East - Red Sox (Better overall than the Yanks, especially with the NY injuries)
AL Central - Tigers (I think Detroit will take two of three from the Sox and keep on rolling)
AL West - Oakland (Best of the worst)
Wildcard - Chicago White Sox (Sheff and Matsui will be back too late for the Yanks to get to the playoffs)
NL East - Mets (No challengers, they're on easy street)
NL Central - St. Louis (Cincy won't catch up here.)
NL West - San Diego Padres (Best of the worst)
Wildcard - Cincinnati Reds
AL Champ - White Sox
NL Champ - Mets (No other NL team is this complete)
World Series Champ - Mets
I hate to claim a New York team champ, but at least it's not the New York Yankees. Because so many races are so close, I'm obviously not 100% confident in these, barely 50%. But I call them as I see them and this is the way it looks now.
