Cowher to Announce Retirement on Friday

10
Vote

Head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers Bill Cowher will reportedly announce his retirement at a press conference on Friday. He has been the Steelers coach for 15 seasons, reaching the playoffs 10 times, while winning the Super Bowl once in two tries.

Cowher's contract with the Steelers runs through the 2007 season, so he can potentially sign with another team after only missing a year.

The Steelers have had a disappointing season this year, putting up an 8-8 record and missing the playoffs a year after winning the Super Bowl.

I can see that he is ready to hang it up for a while. It hurts that he would come back somewhere else next year though. But as an 18 year old die heard Steeler fan, he is the Steelers to me. He is slapping the Rooneys in the face who made Cowher. Its a catch 22.

So what? He has no obligation to the Rooneys, let along an 18-year-old fan. He's a man who wants to quit his job. It happens every day. Get over it.

How is Cowher slapping the Rooney family in face? I really don't see it. The man apparently needs a break after 15 years on the job in Pittsburgh. Now, if you wanna talk about a coach slapping an owner and fan base in the face, we can bring up Nick Saban, but I don't see how Cowher's slapping anyone in the face.

I hate how everyone's using the word "retire." To me, retiring means you'll never do that job again (unless your name's Michael Jordan or Junior Seau). I have a hard time believing Cowhere will *never* coach again; I could see him taking a year or two off, maybe doing a little TV, before taking another coaching job, be it in the NFL or college.

Far as I'm concerned, Cowher's resigning, not retiring.

Good for him! I say do what YOU want, not what they want. When he's on his deathbed, he won't have to regret doing what other people wanted from him. 20 more years of Fame, Glory and Success will be 20 more years of same-ole same-ole. He already has it, he doesn't need more. Family comes first. Coaching is just a job.

I would say coaching is more than just a job. But yeah, family must take precedence.

Why does Cower look like he's angry and ready to spit? Why can't someone get a better photo of the guy?
