Cowboys 30, Ravens 3

The last time a team scored 30 runs in a Major League game was 1897. That’s a few years before the American League existed. Coming into last night’s game, the Rangers were 7 th in the AL in runs scored, with 586 runs. Now they have 616, so the 30 they scored constitute about 5% of their total runs scored this year. Last year, the Dallas Cowboys put up 30 or more points 6 times. The Ravens didn’t allow 30 or more points in any game last season. The Rangers scored more runs than they had in their previous 9 games combined.
The Rangers had 29 hits in 57 at-bats (.509 average). They also walked 8 times for a combined OBP of .569. Every hitter got at least one hit. Every hitter with more than 1 at-bat had multiple hits. Six men had 3 or more hits. Three had 4 or more hits. Four players had 4 or more RBI, and two had 7 RBI. As a team, they had 6 homeruns and 2 doubles.
Just some more oddities from this game, apart from the obvious:
With the score 14-3, Wes Littleton entered the game for the Rangers and pitched 3 innings, earning his first save of the season, and his second career save.
The Rangers actually trailed this game 3-0 going into the 4 th. Even after that inning, it was still a close game at 5-3, until the 9 run 6 th inning ended all doubt.
Texas scored all their runs in 4 innings, the 4 th, 6 th, 8 th, and 9 th. Usually 20+ run games involve scoring in almost every inning.
The Orioles bullpen pitched 4 innings, allowing 24 earned runs. That’s an ERA of 54.00. No position player pitched for Baltimore, despite the fact that this game was the first of a doubleheader.
I went to the Red Sox 25-8 drubbing of Florida in 2003. They scored 11 runs before recording an out, and 14 in the 1 st inning alone. After the game, the Marlins were pissed because they felt as though we were running up the score. I think the Orioles might have a legit gripe in this game. The Rangers scored 6 runs in the 9 th inning, when they already had a 20+ run lead. I just don’t see the point in that. Why not just go to the plate, take three strikes, and move on to the next game. I know it sucks taking a strikeout, but there’s no point in taking 9 th inning batting practice. Just end the frigging game.
