Countdown to College Football: 7 Days

You might remember me as the guy that things a playoff would ruin college football. Well, I've resurfaced. I feel a disturbance in the force. There is something on the horizon and I think we all know what it is.
The first week of College Football is a week away. Sure there are some games on Thursday, but for the majority of College Football teams, action starts next Saturday, Sept 2nd.
To help make these grouling seven days pass a little faster I have decided to countdown the days by addressing a major question for the 2006 season each day.
How will the early departure of Vince Young effect the Texas Longhorns?
It's easy to find lots of reasons that Texas will repeat as National Champions. There is experience at nearly every position. Big game experience. Big games like @ Ohio State, vs. Oklahoma, @ the Rose Bowl vs. USC for a National Championship. Those, my friends, are as big as games get. They are posed, confident and minus one itty bitty, tinsy winsy factor: a player by the name of Vince Young, currently a QB for the Tennessee Titans.
There is no doubt that Texas lost A LOT when Vince Young declared for the draft. His play was the sole reason they went undefeated last year. If you put another QB back there against Ohio State, Texas loses that game. And USC? Please! Texas would have been beat by halftime, if not for Vince Young.
So where does that leave this group of players who road the VY train all the way to the BCS Championship a year ago, and now is thirsty for more. The question is, is it possible to ride the Colt McCoy train to Glendell, Arizona? Or will it derail.
I think it derails, and let me tell you why. Vince Young was more than just an outstanding player. His play on the field was just a fraction of what he did for this team during workouts, pratices, scrimages, pre-game preperation, in game pep talks. He was the heart and soul of the team. If Texas has any kind of shot to repeat, someone is going to have to step up be that guy. And I don't think it's going to be Colt McCoy, who has never taken a single snap in a college football game.
If Texas was just trying to replace a great QB, it'd be no problem. There are all kinds of great QBs. But Texas is trying to replace a whole lot more in Vince Young. I think there will be some hiccups along the way. The defense will keep them in games, but the offense will lose a couple in the fourth quarter.
