Cotton Tierney (James Arthur Tierney) was born on February 10, 1894 in Kansas City, Kansas. He made his Major League debut on September 23, 1920 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1921, his rookie year, he hit .299 with 3 home runs and 52 RBI. Tierney played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Braves and Brooklyn Robins over the course of his 6 year career.

Most people believe that Cotton Tierney's best season was 1923, when he hit for a .312 average and knocked in 88 runs.
