Cope wins opening event in Pro-Am Series

Jamie 'Shotgun' Cope blasted former world champion Ken Doherty in the opening Pontin's Pro-Am Series event at Prestatyn last week.
The Stoke potter came from 2-1 down to deny the Dubliner 4-2 in the final at Pontin’s Holiday Centre.
It was a great performance by Cope who clearly enjoys competing at the North Wales venue, having won the Challenge Tour Order of Merit in 2005.
Certainly, Malta Cup champion Doherty was in determined mood after his Crucible quarter-final defeat by Marco Fu.
Once again the event attracted many leading stars including 2006 Crucible campaigners such as Joe Swail, Joe Perry, Dave Harold, David Gray and Michael Holt.
Cope, 20, produced some impressive displays including two of the three century breaks made in the competition.
After Graeme Dott’s success at Sheffield, it appeared another Scot might win at Pontin’s. Fellow Glaswegian Scott MacKenzie, beaten in a career best last 16 appearance at the China Open, reached the semi-finals.
But Doherty triumphed 4-0 and then won two of the first three frames of the final. However, helped by breaks of 88, 60 and 64 Cope, who reached the last 16 of the Grand Prix at Preston last October, took the prize.
Adam Duffy compiled the highest break with a 113.
