You win the 2007 Award for Least Deserving Guy to Make the All-Star Team Who Only Made it in Because His Sorry-Ass Team Needed a Representative and No Other Combination of Adequacy and Fielding Position Would Fit on the Roster!

Thanks to everyone's favorite little-league style rule that mandates at least one rep per team, you win this year's ALDGMASTWOMBHSATNRNOCAFPWFR, and us fans get treated to your slap-hitting style and .707 OPS in sports' best exhibition showcase.

Keep on truckin', little guy!

P.S.: Someone needs to tell Tony LaRussa / the voting players that closers are not as good as regular pitchers, and that's why they're closers. Yeah, we all love to see them do their one-inning thing, and the ASG sort of lends itself to that, with the frequent pitching changes and all. But come on; six of the twelve NL pitchers being closers? That's lame. Maybe this is LaRussa basking in his own legacy as the guy who sort of invented / popularized the modern closer, and if that were the case, he's a jerk. And he's a jerk anyway.

I'd rather than watch Freddy Sanchez than Derek Jeter any day. As a fan of a team that's had it's ups and downs, I've been thankful for the One-rep-per-team rule. In 2005 when there was only one Indian I wouldn't have watched the game if there wasn't the opportunity to see Wickman pitch. In 2006 there was the incentive to see Sizemore on the team. You'd think that because I love baseball so much that I'd watch the game no matter what, but if my team was completely snubbed, I wouldn't want to watch everyone else's team play. Now that the Tribe is back to three guys in, I'm sure the White Sox fans who had four five in the game when the Indians had one will tune in to see Jenks pitch.

That's just stupid, White Sox fans don't even watch the game when their whole team is on the field.

I disagree regarding closers. They're often the best pitcher on their team. I'd take Wagner over Maine, JJ Putz over any other Mariner, and Mariano over any of the Yanks motley crew.

Clemens just set another MLB record for being the oldest designated batboy. The legend grows...

The onyl reason he made the team is because of the rule that requires each team to be represented on the All-Star team. Whether or not that is fair is up to you. Personally, I am cool with it. The team is large enough to support 1 rsoter spot going to each team. It is like the NCAA tournament. Some teams get automatic bids, and the remaining bids are open.

I have no idea how Sanchez is the representitive for the Pirates. Gorzelanny and Snell are having great years, but I guess they want the Pirates rep to be like the team: mediocre.

Voting for the All-Star game is stupid...It should be left up to the Managers and Sports Writers!!!
