Conference Championships preview

The biggest question for today's Conference Championships is, can the number six seed Columbus Destroyers (7-9 in regular season) continue their cinderella-like playoff run against the Georgia Force, the number two seeded Georgia Force (14-2 in regular season, second best record in the AFL).

In the other game today, the Chicago Rush travels to San Jose to take on the number one seed in the American Conference.

     My Predictions:

Georgia will finally get rid of the hungry Destroyers by destroying them 60-31, Georgia QB Chris Griesen, and WR Chris Jackson will break out with a big game over the Columbus defense.

San Jose is too good to be beat, they have arguably the best QB in the AFL (other than Dallas's Clint Dolezel), Mark Grieb.  San Jose wins it 70-67, over Chicago in a shootout.

If Matt D'Orazio can't overcome his injured back like he did last Monday night, Chicago will get run out of the building and the SaberCats will set every significant AFL playoff record doing it.

But I don't think he will, and Chicago is gonna get run over by San Jose, but right now Columbus is winning against Georgia 14-7, it will be unbelievable if they advanced to the Arena Bowl, and it would be just like last year when Chicago won it with a 7-9 regular season record, and was the 5th seed.

Nagy's been there and done that with the Force, and Columbus' secondary is much better than their 7-9 record would indicate. The game will be decided in first 5 or six minutes of the 3rd quarter, a period of time that until last Saturday, Columbus has taken off during the game. If D'Orazio is a no go, San Jose is going to do things to Chicago that shouldn't happen to any professional team in the playoffs.

I agree, and after watching the first half of the game, I definitely believe that Columbus could pull off the upset.

There's something about a team on a playoff mission....from the Steelers a coupla years ago to the Rush last year and now on the brink of it being the Destroyers this year....it's an internal to each player thing that just comes together....

I would not have bet free money on the first game result coming out the way it did. I haven't seen the game yet (so thankful for DVRs) but I don't think there's much to stop the Destroyers now.
