[edit] Biography
Colt Brennan holds numerous NCAA records including the career mark for passing touchdowns. He was considered a better pro prospect than from Hawaii Quarterback Timmy Chang, but faced the "System QB" label that haunted other high-profile run-and-shoot quarterbacks such as Andre Ware & David Klingler. But Brennan could blossom in a pro style West Coast system. At this point in Brennan's career, there are still more questions than answers with this guy, which will make him a potential first day draft pick in the NFL Draft.
Brennan backed up Matt Leinart at Mater Dei High School and later spent a year at Worcester Academy prep school where he played with former University of New Hampshire wideout David Ball. Brennan began his college career at University of Colorado as a walk-on where he red-shirted as a freshman. While at Colorado, he was convicted of first-degree criminal trespass and second-degree burglary in 2004 after he allegedly entered a female students dorm room and fondled her. The conviction resulted in his dismissal from the team. Brennan then headed to Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, CA and, after a standout season there, Brennan was offered an opportunity to walk-on at the University of Hawaii. Brennan was drafted in 6th Round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins.
[edit] Statistics
[edit] Scouting Report
Strentghs - Was extraordinarily productive in his college career. Good height with the frame to get bigger and more physical. Brennan is incredibly accurate with adequate arm strength and a quick release. He has displayed terrific touch and timing and is viewed as a decent athlete who moves well in the pocket. He is an intelligent QB who knows how to read a defense and go through his progressions quickly and effectively. Brennan's confidence and poise under pressure will make him a gutsy QB and he has shown maturity in owning up to his past mistakes. Brennan is considered a leader on and off the field since his past regressions.
Weaknesses - Brennan's major concern is the run-and-shoot offense he played in that inflated his stats. He worked almost strictly out of the shotgun formation and was not asked to make many NFL reads or throws. He needs to add weight and bulk up, but has the body construction to do that. Throwing motion is very unorthodox and his sidearm delivery leads to passes getting knocked down but other pro-prospects have thrived regardless of similar concerns. While Brennan has the ability to evade potential rushers, his movement outside of the pocket is still suspect. Brennan, because of his issues at Colorado, has some character concerns which have become an issue in the NFL. He is considered an incomplete product and will need some technique work and time on the bench. In the mold of Brett Favre, Brennan is somewhat of a gunslinger who will play recklessly and take unnecessary risks. He may have significant bust potential, but at a late first day pick (to early second day) the risk is not considerable. Brennan had a poor showing in Sugar Bowl and significantly reduced his draft stock among NFL evaluators.
