The Padres break out camouflage uniforms to honor the military. San Diego is a military town and the Padres seem to welcome that. I applaud MLB and the Padres for supporting the military with their dress. I can't see another sport doing this.
David Wells pitched well for the Padres into the seventh inning giving up 2 runs on six hits with one walk and 4 strikeouts. But the bullpen was even better, with Trevor Hoffman earning the win and the three relievers combined gave up one hit and one walk in 2 and 1/3 innings worked.
Josh Fogg for the Rockies was equally as good as Wells, except giving up a solo home run to Russell Branyan in the fourth and with one less strikeout. But the bullpen of the Rox showed their weakness and proving to be the difference in the game giving up four hits and a walk and the all important game winning run. Jeremy Affeldt earned his first blown save of the season with Manny Corpas getting the loss.
The loss ended the Rox's 3-game winning streak and put both teams tied in the NL West. The walk issued by Fogg to Marcus Giles in the seventh was the first walk given up by Colorado in three games. This marks only the second time in franchise history they had gone two consecutive games without walking a batter. The previous time was August 11-12 in 1995 against the Atlanta Braves. That was also the only season the Rockies have ever made the playoffs earning a wild card birth.
