Rasmus is the longest tenured former first round pick still with the organization, which further confirms the total disregard for player development the Cards have shown lately. Rasmus is coming off a season in which he led Double A players with 93 runs and 69 extra base hits and was the leadoff hitter and centerfielder for the victorious United States team in the recently concluded World Cup. Rasmus is one of the few players in the minors who can impact a game with any of his tools and has saved numerous games with his defense in center and with his arm. His only weakness offensively is the same as most young hitters, the tendency to try and pull too much. Defensively he is major league ready now and projects to be a multiple Gold Glove winner. With Jim Edmonds signed for one more season, Rasmus should begin the season in Triple A and gradually work himself into the everyday lineup, but coming off his World Cup performance it may be difficult for the Cards to send him down.
