Coffey New Reds Closer

The Cincinnati Reds have handed the closers role over the Todd Coffey. Coffey earned his second save Wednesday against the Cubs. After the game, Reds manager Jerry Narron noted that Coffey will be the team's new closer. Asked if Coffey would get the ball in the next save situation, Narron said, "I believe he will." Coffey has a 1.20 ERA while previous closer David Weathers' ERA stands at 3.24.

Coffey has been the most valuable reliever in the NL this year. Both Coffey and Weathers were already being brought in to pitch in all the high-leverage situations for Cincy. So, I don't know if this will really improve the bullpen by more than a couple runs, but Coffey definitely deserves the title of "Closer."
