I know that I'm sort of late with this but here it is anyways...
With the 2007-2008 NCAA Mens Basketball season soon to get started, ESPN/USA Today released the Coaches Poll. Here are the rankings for the start of the 2007-08 season.
xvxc
2006-07 record 28-6
1st in ACC
With Tyler Hansbrough, the Tar Heels leading scorer and rebounder returning to the team, North Carolina looks to make a run at the National Championship. One factor in the Tar Heels not making it to the National Championship was the lack of experience, despite winning the ACC Championship making it to the Elite 8. The youth still had a great season last year. They beat Duke twice and defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes when they were on top. The success of last years team gives them the #1 spot in the Coaches poll.
2. UCLA Bruins
2006-07 record
1st in Pac 10
Leading scorer, Aaron Afflalo won't be at UCLA due to being drafted, but UCLA is not looking at that. The Junior, Josh Shipp looks to take Afflalo's spot and help the Bruins take the National title. UNC edged out UCLA for the #1 spot, so the Bruins are looking to take that from them with key players such as Josh Shipp and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.
3. Memphis Tigers
2006-07 record 30-3
1st in Conference USA
With a great 30-3 record last year, the Tigers were also edged out of a higher spot by the Tar Heels and the Bruins. Tigers guard, Chris Douglas-Roberts was the leading scorer of the team and with him back this year, you can expect a lot from this guy.
4. Kansas Jayhawks
2006-07 record
30-4 1st in Big 12
The Jayhawks ended last year on a sour note in the Final Four, despite the great season. Brandon Rush's health will determine the outcome of Kansas' season. He had surgery on a torn ACL over the offseason. He has been the leading scorer for Kansas and they will be depending on him to take this team far.
5. Georgetown Hoyas- 2006-07 record 26-6 1st in Big East
The main threat from the Hoyas, Jeff Green is gone to the NBA but
Georgetown still has a lot of potential to dominate the NCAA this year. The Hoyas have a new guy in town, #7 in ESPN's top 150, Greg Monroe. He
is compared to Lamar Odom of the Los Angeles Lakers. He looks to fill
in that hole for the Hoyas and help Georgetown bring home a trophy.
Now that the Top 5 teams have been discussed, here is the rest of the
Top 25 teams. Remember, this is the Coaches Poll, not the AP.
