Born on June 25, 1948 in Washington, D.C., Clay Kirby (Clayton Laws Kirby) played for the San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds and Montreal Expos over the course of his 8 year career. Kirby broke into the bigs on April 11, 1969 with the San Diego Padres, and put up a 3.80 ERA in 215.2 innings pitched in 1969, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Clay Kirby's best season was 1971, when he posted a 2.83 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 231 batters.
