Born on May 2, 1941 in Clanton, Alabama, Clay Carroll (Clay Palmer Carroll) played for the Milwaukee Braves, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 15 year career. Carroll broke into the bigs on September 2, 1964 with the Milwaukee Braves, and put up a 2.37 ERA in 144.1 innings pitched in 1966, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Clay Carroll's best season was 1972, when he posted a 2.25 ERA, notched 37 saves and struck out 51 batters.
