Claude Ritchey (Claude Cassius Ritchey) was born on October 5, 1873 in Emlenton, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on April 22, 1897 for the Cincinnati Reds. In 1897, his rookie year, he hit .282 with 0 home runs and 41 RBI. Ritchey played for the Cincinnati Reds, Louisville Colonels, Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Doves over the course of his 13 year career.

Most people believe that Claude Ritchey's best season was 1899, when he hit for a .300 average and knocked in 71 runs.
