Born on February 22, 1891 in Franklin, Nebraska, Clarence Mitchell (Clarence Elmer Mitchell) played for the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Robins, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Giants over the course of his 18 year career. Mitchell broke into the bigs on June 2, 1911 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 3.14 ERA in 194.2 innings pitched in 1916, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Clarence Mitchell's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1921, when he posted a 2.89 ERA and won 11 games. However, others believe that it was 1916, when he posted a 3.14 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 52 batters.
