Born on August 24, 1915 in Mount Airy, North Carolina, Chubby Dean (Alfred Lovell Dean) played for the Philadelphia Athletics and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 8 year career. Dean broke into the bigs on April 14, 1936 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 5.25 ERA in 116.2 innings pitched in 1939, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Chubby Dean's best season was 1942, when he posted a 3.81 ERA.
