I'm saddened to report the unfortunate passing of another wrestling legend. Chris Benoit, his wife and his son family were found dead in his home in Metro Atlanta. Chris Benoit was 40 years old.
He came into the business training with Stu Hart in Calgary in 1985 and wrestled for Stampede Wrestling until 1989. He wrestled in Japan as the Pegasus Kid and became friends with late superstar Eddie Guerrero. Benoit really made his name in ECW in a famous match with Sabu. He then wrestled in WCW becoming a member of the Four Horsemen and won numerous titles there as well.
Benoit was part of the Radicalz, a group that included Perry Saturn, Dean Malenko and Eddie Guerrero. This was one night after he won the WCW heavyweight championship. Benoit won the World heavyweight title beating Triple H and HBK in a triple threat match in 2004. Ironically, Eddie Guerrero won the WWE title that same night.
Police believe that this was a double murder suicide and aren't looking for any suspects at this time.
On a personal note, this tragedy comes on the heels of a major WWE storyline that had Vince McMahon deceased due to his limousine blowing up. Tonight's show {which was cancelled} was going to be a 3 hour mock memorial to the pretend death of Mr. Mcmahon. Tonight I was going to write an article about how disgraceful a PR stunt this was and how this spoke of as much desperation as the Yankees pulling the Rocket out of the pen yesterday. Now the WWE will be planning a real memorial and the tributes, the pain and the tears in which they were about to feign will unfortunately be real.
