Chippy McGarr (James B. McGarr) was born on May 10, 1863 in Worcester, Massachusetts. He made his Major League debut on July 11, 1884 for the Chicago Browns. In 1886, his rookie year, he hit .266 with 2 home runs and 31 RBI. McGarr played for the Chicago Browns, Philadelphia Athletics, St. Louis Browns, Kansas City Cowboys, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Beaneaters and Cleveland Spiders over the course of his 10 year career.

Most people believe that Chippy McGarr's best season was 1887, when he stole 84 bases, hit for a .295 average and knocked in 63 runs.
