Chip Myrtle (Charles Joseph Myrtle) was born on February 6, 1945 in Hyattsville, Maryland. After going to high school at John Carroll (Washington, DC), Myrtle attended the University of Maryland. Myrtle made his professional debut in the AFL in 1967 with the Denver Broncos. He played in the AFL for 3 years, playing for the Denver Broncos the entire time. Myrtle also played in the NFL for 4 years, playing for the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers over the course of his 4 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1971 was Chip Myrtle's best year, as he picked off 3 passes and recovered 5 opponents fumbles.
