Sometimes I guess I believe that if I say something enough times, over and over again, that it will become true. I said probably 100 times last week in various comments all over this site, that the Chiefs had turned the corner, and were going to whip the Jags on Sunday. As you all know by now, I was dead wrong. It would seem that the Kansas City Chiefs we saw in the first two games of this season, are the true Kansas City Chiefs. They proved this on Sunday, as they absolutely stank up all of Arrowhead Stadium, in a brilliantly executed loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Larry Johnson touched the ball 14 times, and came up with a whopping 15 yards. 9 carries for 12 yards rushing, and 5 catches for another 3 yards. Now that's good stuff. 7.5 million bucks a year's worth of good stuff. Damon Huard threw 19 completions in 30 attempts for 196 yards, no touchdowns, and one pick. That gives him the stellar quarterback rating on the day of 68.2. There were bright spots, I guess. The defense did hold Jacksonville to 17 points. That should be good enough to win, if you have any offense at all. Oh yeah, the Chiefs don't have an offense. Actually, the Chiefs offense didn't look bad on their only possession of the first quarter, when they went 64 yards in 9 plays on the game's first drive, until kicker Dave Rayner went wide left on the resulting 28 yard field goal attempt. That was pretty much it for the Chiefs offense on the day. Tony Gonzalez did grab 9 balls for 100 yards, and Dwayne Bowe added 4 receptions for 70 yards, but neither of them were able to find the end zone. Brodie Croyle came in at quarterback, after Huard was shaken up, and he absolutely looked like a deer in the headlights, at first. But he calmed himself down, and was able to save a little bit of face, by putting together a nice game ending drive. With 1:55 remaining, Croyle led the Chiefs on an 11 play 70 yard drive, highlighted by a 35 yard completion to Bowe, and a 13 yard scoring strike to Sammy Parker on the last play of the game. Too little too late for the Chiefs and their fans. So, here's what you all learned this week: Don't trust Donatevo when he picks the Chiefs. And Donatevo learned: Believe it, the Chiefs are NOT a good football team this year.
