Chiefs Withdraw Request to Host Superbowl

The Kansas City Chiefs withdrew their request to host the 2015 Super Bowl at Arrowhead Stadium, because of problems with their rolling roof. Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt said "We tried our very best but found that the combination of a lack of consensus from the various political interests, the business community and the Royals, as well as the need for promptness on the beginning of construction at Arrowhead would not permit us to pursue the rolling roof at this time."

Okay, accidentally hit the "Post Comment" button before I had typed anything, but that still shouldn't have happened. Anyway, onto the real comment... Can someone clear up a detail for me? It is the case that Lamar Hunt does not own that stadium, right? I'm under the impression that Jackson County owns Arrowhead, if not Kauffman too. I think I used to know this, but I forget, and now it matters.

I can't answer that question, but I just wanted to say that I think it's sad that a team can't host the Superbowl if it's cold. They bent the rule for New York after Sept. 11, why not Kansas City? When did the Super Bowl turn into the Aloha Bowl? Have it in an outdoor stadium where it might snow. You really think that a little snow will prevent people from coming to the most-watched American sporting event?

I agree, ASwaff; in fact, I think it should still just happen at the home field of the team with the best record, rather than a pre-scheduled "neutral site". Let's carry home-field advantage through to the big game, old-school style.
