Chiefs Roundup: TE Gonzalez Extended, QB Coach Shea Fired

The Kansas City Chiefs did not waste very much time in getting their offseason started. The first major move was a five-year contract extension for tight end Tony Gonzalez, making it very likely that he will end his career as a Chief. Some of the early reported figures of the contract have him making an average of just over $6.25M a year.
In a move very much associated with Herman Edwards' efforts to impose his philosophy on the team's offense, quarterbacks coach Terry Shea was fired. When Edwards took over as head coach in 2006, Shea was one of several assistants retained, likely to maintain a smooth transition for Trent Green under Edwards. With Shea gone Green may very well be pressed for his job, and it may not just be by Huard. Brodie Croyle may very well be in the thick of that competition, as another one of Edwards' overriding themes is to get the team younger.
