Chiefs RT John Welbourn Retires

Vote

Wow, I honestly did not see that one coming. Kyle Turley now has a much greater chance of starting at RT outright. On the other hand, I had heard rumors during last year's training camp that Kevin Sampson had been coming along excellently until he suffered an injury. I hope this is true as it would be nice to still have competition at the position.

Welborn was never as good as he thought he was. And once he got busted for using roids, you knew it was only a matter of time before his career ended.

I agree that he wasn't the greatest. He held up at the position well enough to not render the rest of the line futile. My concern with this article is, as always, what's going on with the Chiefs' depth.

Its not as if the line was awful last year...how much impact will the loss of welbourn make. Look at their RBS, this line must have been pretty friggin good...

Oh, how the heck was I not logged in when I made that comment... armchairgm must be resetting browser cookies or something... or it's just me. Anyway, when I made that comment I didn't mean that the line was awful. I know it's great. I was just saying, despite that Welbourn wasn't an exceptional RT, he was good enough to keep the rest of the excellent line from having to shift their efforts to make up for him. You're probably right that the impact should be low. Either Turley will be the most qualified or Sampson will step up again (or another youngin'?). The loss of any of the other four would be an entirely different and catastrophic situation...
