Chiefs Come to Terms with Three NFL Europe Free Agents

8
Vote

The Kansas City Chiefs came to terms with three NFLE players--G Tyler Lenda, WR Scott McCready, and FB J.R. Niklos.

Lenda spent three years with the Amsterdam Admirals. He appeared in 30 games (20 starts) for the Admirals. McCready has spent the past five seasons playing for the Scottish Claymores and the Hamburg Sea Devils. McCready caught 182 passes for 2,079 yards 11.4 avg. with nine touchdowns during his time in Europe, ranking second in NFLEL history in both receptions and receiving yards. Niklos spent the last two seasons with the Frankfurt Galaxy earning 340 yards on 93 carries.

(Anyway, in the spirit of "adopt a team" I've been keeping the Chiefs depth-chart up-to-the minute. I encourage more of you to do this, especially if anybody gets the unique opportunity to visit any training camps in a couple of months. First-hand accounts of how position battles are playing out is exactly the kind of thing that can help push this site above others)

They also signed that CFL guy whose name I keep forgetting. I wonder if Carl Peterson is on some sort of prospecting kick.

This types of moves are not unusual for any team. They have these scout everywhere and depending on your area, any of us could become a scout (unpaid of course) and if you show promise they move you up. Anyways, many teams sign these guys through training camp and if you're lucky, one will make the team this year. Every once and a while a guy will pan out and play for the team legitimately (not special teams). For example, Chad Hutchinson (I know he sucks, but he started for the cowboys, thats an accomplishment) is an NFLE alum. Can anyone think of any other NFLE guys who are/were contributors?
