Chiefs Bring in Jeff Smoker to Shore Up Depleted QB Position

This must be a pretty familiar place for Herman Edwards. Luckily it's still the preseason and the starter Trent Green, is not down for the season, or at all for that matter.
The current situation is that Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle are both injured leaving Green and Canada import Casey Printers to share training camp and pre-season game duty. Green will not see extensive playing time in the first pre-season game and it's not realistic to have Printers play the entire rest of the game. So the Chiefs brought in Jeff Smoker, who was with the Rams last season. He may not make it out of the pre-season, like Jonathan Quinn last year, but he'll provide the team with more room to work at the position without over-extending any individual (who isn't injured).
This situation is a new dimension to the original problem that, even with no injuries, the team is tempted to keep four quarterbacks: Green and Huard, the obvious veteran starter and backup and the two young prospects Croyle and Printers. This is important because the Chiefs have historically NOT drafted or developed young quarterbacks. Now they have two, one from the draft and one from the CFL.
