Chiefs Agree To Terms With Fifth-Round Draft Pick

The Kansas City Chiefs signed fifth-round selection, CB Marcus Maxey today. The Chiefs have now signed all of their fifth- and six-round selections.
What is notable about this pick is that many assumed the Chiefs would (or at least should) select a cornerback in the first three rounds of the 2006 NFL Draft, possible even with their first-round selection. However, they deferred drafting at the position and instead went with defensive end (Tamba Hali), strong safety (Bernard Pollard), and quarterback-in-training (Brodie Croyle).
Perhaps with Herm Edwards' background as player and coach at the position he can extract more value from lower-round draft picks and free-agents. This remains to be seen and should be one of the big questions of training camp, unless Ty Law chooses the Chiefs over the Patriots and others.
