Chief Meyers (John Tortes Meyers) was born on July 29, 1880 in Riverside, California. He made his Major League debut on April 16, 1909 for the New York Giants. In 1909, his rookie year, he hit .277 with 1 home run and 30 RBI. Meyers played for the New York Giants, Brooklyn Superbas and Boston Braves over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that Chief Meyers's best season was 1912, when he hit for a .358 average and knocked in 54 runs.
