Chick Shorten (Charles Henry Shorten) was born on April 19, 1892 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on September 22, 1915 for the Boston Red Sox. In 1917, his rookie year, he hit .179 with 0 home runs and 16 RBI. Shorten played for the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 8 year career.

Most people believe that Chick Shorten's best season was 1920, when he hit for a .288 average.
