Chicago trading needed pitching for abundant offense

If the proposed Soriano deal goes through, I fail to see the Chicago White Sox logic. Though Soriano is a dominant offensive player, aren't Thome, Dye, and Konerko sufficient in the offense department. Shouldn't their focus be on pitching, which won them the World Series last year. Garland, Buherle, and Garcia have returned to earth, Contreras is no longer unbeatable, and El Duque is in Flushing. Trading a starter quality arm from out of the pen, even if it is for Soriano, seems a little risky.

Thoughts?

Keeps him from the Yankees. A page out the Yankee playbook.

The interest wasn't strong, but I'll buy that somewhat. Keeps him off the other AL contenders would probably be more accurate.

I don't think the White Sox view the Yanks as a real threat this year. This deal is more out of concern with the Tigers.

Its strange though because the Sox won their last year by playing small ball. For whatever reason it seems they are completly leaving that ideal and looking offense, cant say its a smart idea.

Does seem a bit Yankee-ish I must say. This elads to another article I am prepping, but winning and the pressure and expectation to repeat (which no team faces more than the Yankees) forces moves that most teams wouldn't make. Most teams can't do the Florida suck for 6 years, great for 1 routine.

I thinkg WG got it right. I think their only interest is to drive up the price for all other AL teams, the Tigers and Yankees. Unless, they were able to then swing him in another deal for a better pitcher then McCarthy.

Contreras is fine. Garland has started to catch fire.
