[edit] Biography
Chevis Jackson is a senior cornerback for LSU. He was born December 11, 1985 in Mobile, Alabama.
[edit] High School
In high school, Jackson played defensive back, along with wide receiver. He also served as a punt and kick returner for St. Paul's High School. During his senior season, Jackson had 40 tackles and seven interceptions. He also caught 31 passes for 660 yards and five touchdowns on offense during the same year. As a junior, Jackson returned 13 punts for 80 yards, and returned 16 kickoffs for 415 yards. During his junior season he also made 45 catches for 850 yards and nine touchdowns. He was rated as a three star prospect by both Rivals and Scout recruiting websites. Jackson was regarded as one of the best athletes in the state of Alabama. He chose LSU over offer from Alabam, Clemson, Louisville, and South Carolina.
[edit] College
While Jackson did not start during his freshman season, he still played in all 12 games. He finished his rookie season in 2004 with five tackles. He played in LSU's nickel and dime packages on defense.
Jackson played a small role during his freshman season, but that changed in 2005 as a sophmore. He was thrown into the starters role right away, and did not dissapoint, as he started all 12 games. During this season, Jackson had 47 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, one recovered fumble, and 3 deflected passes. Against Florida that year, he had a career high of seven tackles.
In 2006, Jackson again started all 13 games for the Tigers. He had 46 tackles, two interceptions, and ended up finishing the year tied for second in the South Eastern Conference with 16 passes broken up. Early in the year, Jackson also saw some time at punt returner.
In 2007 Jackson played in all 13 games. He had 42 tackles, four interceptions, and 15 passes defended. Played very well in the 30-24 win over Auburn with six solo tackles and two passes defended. Will play in the National Championship game against Ohio State.
[edit] Scouting Report
During college, he was consistently at around the top of his conference in passes broken up. This shows he has a good nose for the ball. Has solid speed for a corner. Can keep up with above average speed wide receivers. Not just a cover corner, he can make an open field tackle.
With all of the great players on the LSU defense, some wonder if he is just a product of the defense as a whole. He may not ever turn out to be an elite corner on the next level, but should be able to thrive in a lower capacity...Jackson could go anywhere from the early second round to the late fourth, but probably somewhere in between there.
