Born on July 3, 1897 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Chet Nichols (Chester Raymond Nichols, Sr.) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 6 year career. Nichols broke into the bigs on July 30, 1926 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 6.79 ERA in 59.2 innings pitched in 1930, his rookie year.
