Chet Gay (Chester Joseph Gay) was born on January 8, 1900 in Moose Lake, Minnesota. After going to high school at Moose Lake (MN), Gay attended the University of Minnesota. Gay made his professional debut in the NFL in 1925 with the Buffalo Bisons. He played for the Milwaukee Badgers and Buffalo Bisons over the course of his 2 year career.
